Administrative Assistant Intern | Mayo Clinic
Describe your current position (employment/internship).
I am an administrative assistant intern for Mayo Clinic. My job is to help assess and record medical equipment for the Healthcare Technology Management department.
How does your position fit with your long term career goals?
Even though this position is not directly related to my career goal which is physical therapy. I believe that it’s a step forward in the medical field. During my time in this internship I’ve had the opportunity to meet many professionals in the field and expand my networking.
During your internship/job search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?
I would say a strong resume and cover letter really set me apart from the rest of the candidates. I worked very hard in making my resume appeal to the employers and put skills that were pertinent to the position I was applying for. I also reached out to career counselors to looks over my documents before applying.
What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship/job search process?
I found a lot of support in the career services office which alleviated the job search process a lot. Everyone that works there is very sympathetic and supportive. They offered various resources for a better development of my resume and cover letter. I was pleased with the guidance that the career counselors provided. I found myself coming back to the office every time I could, and someone would always be there to assist me.
Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?
Do not be afraid to use your resources. I was very surprised to see that the career services office empty most of the times I went there. I would also encourage networking and keeping in touch with professors and staff members to help you expand your contacts within the University.
Anything else you would like to share?
This quote inspired me to pursue all my dreams and goals without having any hesitation on myself and despite any negative comments that people surrounding me might say- “The biggest risk is not taking any risk… in a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking any risks”- Mark Zuckerberg.
