Organization Summary:
AchieveMpls is the strategic nonprofit partner of the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). We mobilize resources – money, people, skills, talent and public awareness – to support MPS and ensure student success in school, life and work. We manage independent career and college centers in all comprehensive high schools and several alternative schools. These centers serve as a hub for community involvement with students. We are a dynamic organization with a dedicated staff and a powerful mission: to ensure that all MPS students are ready for college and careers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Career and College Center Coordinator works with school- and community-based staff to coordinate career and college planning activities for all students.
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
• Manage Career and College Centers in Minneapolis Public High Schools and coordinate their multitude of activities.
• Collaborate with Minneapolis Public School counselors to create and execute a system of career and college planning.
• Assist students in planning for college by organizing college fairs, visits from college reps, financial aid information sessions, ACT/SAT prep, and more.
• Assist students in planning for careers through activities such as career fairs, job searches, work-readiness guidance, resume building, career exposure activities, and more.
• Incorporate volunteers from the business community into the programs of the Career and College centers.
• Communicate opportunities to students, staff, and families.
• Report monthly on impacts and progress toward goals.
• Participate in AchieveMpls meetings and activities.
• Other duties, as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
• Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, community organizations, parents, business partners, college admissions staff, volunteers, and individual community members
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
• Knowledge of current career and college planning processes and resources
• Commitment to the use of metrics and data to improve outcomes for young people
• Skills and experience working as part of a team
• Ability to take initiative in engaging students, parents, teachers and other school staff
• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university, Masters preferred
• School counselor licensure preferred
