Briefly describe your internship program.

For more than 20 years, York Solutions has been singularly focused on delivering value to its clients in the form of IT contract resource selection, deployment, and management.

Our mission is to provide creative, cutting edge IT solutions to help companies achieve business, technology, and operational goals and objectives. We believe strongly in creating a true partnership approach with our clients and consultants that fosters a long-term, trust-based relationship. York is committed to providing high-level service and value to our clients and consultants. In that vein, in addition to our custom resource solutions, we also offer a peer-to-peer professional development association called “Think IT” that we are often told by members, is “second to none.” Think IT consists of well over 2,400 members in 8 different groups from the local IT leadership within the Twin Cities, as well as over 400 members in Chicago’s 2 groups.

The Hartford is in business to protect what is most valuable to customers—their homes, cars, businesses, income, and employees. We help individuals and businesses prepare for the unforeseen with insurance and income protection so they can prevail through loss, accident, or disability.

What tips do have for students and alumni who are looking to enter your industry?

It may be tempting to accept the first job offer that comes your way, but there are many factors to consider when choosing your ideal employer. Some things to think about:

Professional development: Is the company committed to the professional and personal development of its employees? What kind of training programs does it offer? What is the performance review process? What is the growth potential for someone with your experience?

Culture: While many companies look pretty similar and seem to offer the same things, a little digging may reveal very different cultures and values. Trusting, fast-paced, careful, conservative, entrepreneurial, and creative – what company culture would best suit you? What are your co-workers like? It’s also important to understand a company’s position on work/life balance.

Mentoring: You may want to target companies that offer mentoring programs. The advice and support of a more senior colleague can be extremely helpful.

Social responsibility: Does the company give back? Does it support various causes? Is it a strong member of the community?

Commitment to diversity:  Is the company committed to identifying and cultivating diverse talent? Does the company have a diversity policy?

Compensation and benefits: In addition to your salary and bonus opportunities, it’s also important to consider a company’s health and wellness benefits, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, insurance, training, etc.

In the end, choosing an employer is your decision. But don’t be afraid to seek the counsel of a few trusted friends or mentors before making a final choice.

Briefly describe your internship program.

Through our unique Associates Program, The Brewer Group offers interns a fully hands-on learning experience that gives them the opportunity to apply their existing knowledge in a professional environment. TBG’s Associates Program is designed to teach interns accountability and ownership required in today’s business world while encouraging innovation. Through a highly driven team oriented environment, our interns work directly with each other, the executive team and clients and are required to uphold the highest degree of professionalism. The intern is given opportunities to grow both on the job and through our four student learning outcomes. The Brewer Group takes pride in our organically grown workforce and the fact that our entire full-time staff and executive team has started as TBG interns. Additionally, interns that have gone through our Associates Program have ventured on to pursue positions at renowned organizations including Fortune 500 companies, the NFL, ESPN, PGA, governments, major banks and marketing firms.

Target Corporation is an American retailer that operates large retail stores primarily across North America that offer a multitude of goods. It is the second-largest discount retailer in the United States, behind Walmart, and is a component of the S&P 500 Index.[4][5] Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the company was founded as Goodfellow Dry Goods in 1902. The first Target store was opened in 1962; it became the largest division of the Dayton-Hudson Corporation, and was consequently renamed the Target Corporation in 2000. As of 2015, Target operates 1,801 locations throughout the United States. Their retail formats include the discount store Target, the hypermarket SuperTarget, and small-format stores previously named CityTarget and TargetExpress before being consolidated under the Target branding.

What do you do to encourage community support & engagement

We believe in being an active citizen and good neighbor in our communities. We give our time, talent and business strengths to make our communities strong, healthy and safe. We invest in career development and well-being of our team. And from the start, we’ve given 5 percent of our income, a commitment that does not waver based on the economic climate.

As full-time college students, interns in the Network generally work full time during the summer and part-time during the school year developing business- and client-building skills. In most aspects, our interns follow the same process for establishing their careers as our financial representatives by meeting with clients, analyzing clients’ situations, making recommendations, providing on-going service. As a financial representative intern, you’ll get real-world job experience as you discover a career with flexibility and rewards.
