MCAE Scholarship and Internship Fair

The Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE) is hosting its annual Scholarship and Internship Information Fair for multicultural undergraduate students on Tuesday, October 22nd from 10:00am-1:00pm. It is open to UMTC students from all colleges. This event is held in the President’s Room of Coffman Memorial Union.
There will be scholarship experts and organizations on site to answer questions. A variety of local corporations, government agencies, and University programs will be recruiting for internship and job opportunities within their organizations. Campus career services will provide onsite resume critiques and GoldPASS assistance. Register at z.umn.edu/sifstudent by October 15 (You must be logged into your UMN email to register).

Teaching Temps are having an Employment Fair on October 8th from 3-6pm for people to come and learn more about them!
Teaching Temps offers FT and PT employment for licensed teachers, educational assistants, and early childhood staff. Working for Teaching Temps is a great way for a teacher to fine-tune their teaching skills, experience others’ classrooms and get ideas. They are dedicated to the success of their teachers and will work with them to advance their careers!

Etiquette and Career Dinner!

The University of Minnesota Alumni Association is hosting their annual Etiquette Dinner on October 17th for all students and recent alumni!

Enjoy a three-course meal while learning how to professionally handle any dining situation. The program will include an etiquette presentation and a panel of career experts to answer your questions and teach you how to apply your newly learned skills.

Athletic Training Event

Dr. Hal Strough will be coming to Cooke Hall October 1st to give a presentation on Masters level programs for Athletic Training. The presentation will begin at 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. and will be held in Cooke 109.
Dr. Strough is the Chair of the Department of Athletic Training at the College of St. Scholastica. If you have an interest in pursuing Athletic Training as a career path, and want to apply to graduate programs in AT, then this is a presentation you should attend. Get the inside scoop on what it takes to apply for AT programs (pre-reqs, hands-on experience, recommendations for success). Even if you find yourself still wondering what a degree in KIN can do for you – come to hear what AT is, and see if this is a career path that fits for you!

Construction and Facility Management Career Fair

The University of Minnesota Construction and Facility Management program is hosting the first intercollegiate event of its kind, a career fair and quiz bowl event organized to attract students from all nine upper midwest region schools of Construction Management! Current students and alumni in the fields of Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Interior Design are encouraged to attend.
Come and network with 30+ employers for full-time jobs and internships. Free and open to all interested students, no registration required!

The CEHD Undergraduate Student Board will be hosting an informational session on Wednesday September 18 from 3-4 in Education Science Building room 10.
Come learn more about ways you can become involved with UROP!
There will be a presentation lead by staff members from the Dean’s office on how to apply, what to expect during the program and examples of what students have done in the past. The UROP application deadline for Spring 2014 is October 7th so this session is an excellent way to learn about how to get started with a proposal.

Intervention Teaching Positions for LDA’s Saturday program
LDA Minnesota has several part time positions (4.5 hours per Saturday) for the 2013-14 school year. LDA is seeking teachers with expertise in Reading to help struggling 4th through 8th grade students close their achievement gap. LDA’s program runs from 9:00am until 12:30pm at a school site in South Minneapolis. There may be occasional extended Saturday hours or evening hours for Family Involvement events. This position may be combined with other teaching assignments at LDA Minnesota.
Requirements include:
• a BA or BS in education or closely related field;
• teaching license in elementary education, reading, or special education
• at least 1 year of successful experience teaching reading or math to diverse urban learners
• knowledge of current best practice in elementary reading or math instruction, especially for struggling students
• demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
• technology skills to maintain student attendance and achievement data in on-line data base, and communicate remotely with offsite supervisors and colleagues
• reliable transportation
Highly desirable:
• Two or more years of successful elementary teaching
• Spanish language proficiency

Intervention Reading Teacher – LDA Minnesota

LDA Minnesota has several part time (20 hour per week) positions for the 2013-14 school year for Reading Intervention teachers. These teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers in grades K-3 to support struggling students attain grade level proficiency in reading. We have openings in several Minneapolis and St. Paul school sites.
Requirements include:
• a BA or BS in education or closely related field;
• teaching license in elementary education, reading, or special education
• at least 1 year of successful experience teaching reading to diverse urban learners
• knowledge of current best practice in elementary reading instruction, especially for struggling students
• demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
• technology skills to maintain student attendance and achievement data in on-line data base, and communicate remotely with offsite supervisors and colleagues
• reliable transportation
Highly desirable:
• Two or more years of successful elementary teaching
• Spanish language proficiency
