Employment Internship with People Serving People

Position Title: Employment Intern
Reports To: Senior Employment Advocate
Function: The Employment Intern will assist the Employment Coordinator & Employment Specialist in the daily duties within the shelter by addressing the barriers of homelessness pertaining to employment
Key Responsibilities:
• Work one-on-one with clients to:
• Assist Employment Advocate with producing resumes & cover letters.
• Pick out items from our career closet for clients to get an interview outfit.
• Help clients fill employment applications out online & in paper form.
• Research possible short term trainings that clients may be interested in attending.
• Go over frequently asked interview questions to get clients ready for prospective interviews while at the shelter.
• Provide casual case management with PSP guests and keep accurate documentation of all interaction.
• Conduct job searches pertaining to the skill level of the clients at PSP.
• Update daily job resource book.
• Facilitate employment readiness lessons for current guests and Culinary Arts Training Program students.
• Research schools and short term trainings for PSP clients to attend.
• Make phone calls to prospective students and give them info about our training programs here at PSP.
• Some administrative duties: Email, faxing, making & receiving phone calls.
• Help coordinate Project Homeless Connect when the event is taking place, twice a year.
• Explore and learn more about the issues surrounding homelessness.

Commitment Required:
• At least a three-month time commitment with a minimum of 8-20 hours per week (will discuss at interview)
