Treks is CEHD’s popular and innovative professional development program designed to support CEHD instructors’ exploration and integration of instructional technologies and to foster peer connections across the College. The program provides designated time for instructors to explore the ever-expanding array of learning technologies available at the University of Minnesota, as well as best practices for using these technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.
Each session takes place over four days and includes:
- An introduction to the themes of Treks.
- Online learning activities that provide a feel for what it’s like to be an online learner. These activities include space to explore teaching and learning with technology in more depth at your own pace and to learn how other CEHD instructors are using technology in their classes.
- Opportunities for hands-on exploration, discussion, reflection, guided practice, and consultations supported by our knowledgeable and helpful Digital Education and Innovation team.
Treks 2017 features two tracks, both involving intensive exploration of learning technologies and pedagogy:
Treks Explore – The goal of Treks Explore is to introduce instructors to the wide array of learning technologies available at the U and explore how they can be used to meet course learning objectives. CEHD Instructors who are new to learning technology or are interested in a specific technology are encouraged to apply. This session runs June 5 – June 8, with a late afternoon reception on June 7.
Treks Design– In this session of Treks, participants will develop innovative solutions to their teaching and learning challenges by examining the course design best practices and academic technologies that DEI has to offer. Whether it’s a new or existing course, this Treks session will leave you thinking about design as a fundamental aspect of your course development process. This session runs August 14 – August 17, with a late afternoon reception on August 16.
The Treks program is open to all instructors who are currently teaching CEHD courses (Treks is not currently available for Graduate Assistants). Applicants must be able to attend all four days of Treks.
Program participants receive a stipend of $500.
