By default the iPad doesn’t require a passcode to unlock it, however we highly recommend that you use a passcode to protect your information and data. Each time you turn on or wake up the device, it will prompt for the passcode before anyone can use the device. You can also specify the amount of time the screen will be on before the iPad is automatically put to sleep—this  is called Auto-Lock.

Configure a Passcode:

1.       Go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock.

2.       Turn Passcode on.

3.       Enter a four digit passcode.

Set the Auto-Lock time:

Go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock, then choose a time.
