Film/Episode Summary: Earth is coming to an end and it is up to one man and a team of four other humans and two robots to find another planet that’s capable of life. Their plan is move everyone on Earth to this new planet before nature takes its course and destroys all life on Earth. The man is a father of two, a son and a daughter. He decides to accept this mission to travel out of Earth and leaves behind his children with their grandfather. His daughter, whom he has a strong relationship with will not accept his leave, and denies seeing him for the last time before departure. She holds a very deep grudge against her father, and didn’t realize that her left to save not only the lives of his family, but the lives of everyone on Earth.

Comments or Recommendations for Teaching: How did leaving affect his daughter? How did she overcome how she felt about her dad? Was were the reasons behind both perspectives of the two characters?

They come upon a children’s book called The Babadook and encounter strange experiences. The mom was able to cope with her husband’s death from the lesson of being consumed by grief.

Comments or Recommendations for Teaching: What would be a more approachable technique to discuss about Samuel’s father’s room? Besides being furious at her son, how could Amelia disciplined him instead of yelling in front of her coworker? How should Amelia cope with the death of her husband besides leaving all of his belonging in one room?

Comments or Recommendations for Teaching: What would bring Phil to grant this wish from his mother? Is it too soon to be finding his dad another woman? Phil mentions his mother and is reminded by her kindness; besides fulfilling his mom’s wish, what other activities could he be involved in to help cope with his mom’s passing?
